Symposium “« Les bibliothèques en Méditerranée mediévale », 4-5th April 2019

This symposium is conceived in order to make researchers from different backgrounds meet and debate on the history of libraries in medieval Mediterranean. Its purpose is to focus on the specificities of each cultural area as well as on the influence of the common Hellenistic heritage, concerning the organization of the books, the development of philological and literary activities, the evolution in book-formats and of the editorial techniques. As an original initiative, this joint reflection will not result in publication of regular type but rather in entries on “Arab”, “Byzantine”, “Graeco-Roman”, “Jewish”, “Latin Medieval” and “Humanistic Libraries”, which will be published online in the Encyclopedia of Mediterranean Humanism(https://www.encyclopedie-humanisme.com/)
